KMA reviews plans for architects, civil engineers, and developers to ensure full compliance with relevant accessible design and construction requirements of apartments, condominiums, senior housing, dormitories, hospitals, and educational facilities. KMA also conducts construction site inspections and post-occupancy evaluations to ensure compliance with accessible design intent.
Case Study
Marshfield High School, Marshfield, MA
KMA offers accessible design plan review services for all phases of design. For Ai3 Architects, KMA has reviewed several school plans at schematic, design development, and construction document phases. The Marshfield High School plan review was typical. It begins by identifying which access codes and regulations apply, and is followed by “General Notes.” These notes point out general or upcoming concerns such as a recommendation to design in tolerances so that construction will be compliant. These notes are followed by specific issues that occur – such as the need for more clear maneuvering space at a door, or insufficient number or location of accessible parking spaces. Ai3 responds to all comments in writing to confirm its understanding and response. As a result, there are no accessibility issues in the final project design.
