Bethany Hurd

(she, her)
Access Planner

After learning about KMA in graduate school, Bethany moved to Boston to join the firm in 2021 as an Access Planner. Bethany is one of KMA’s “road warriors,” traveling throughout the US performing construction walks for multifamily developments. When she’s not on the road, she’s completing plan reviews for the same projects.

Bethany’s desire to improve the built environment developed early in life. As a teen, her lived experiences navigating high school halls with assistive devices, including a wheelchair, and then being paired with her service dog, Lucy, showed her the need for more thoughtful and inclusive architectural design. Lucy supported Bethany throughout her career as a Master of Architecture student at the University of Kansas, and while she served as a volunteer in various capacities related to design. After eleven years of navigating life and travel with Bethany, including two years at KMA, Lucy retired in 2023.

For Bethany, KMA is more than just a job – it’s a place where she can do what she loves in a safe and flexible environment. She enjoys having in depth discussions about accessibility requirements with co-workers who understand and match her passion for a more accessible world.
